Chilean miners rescued....best realty TV ever!

A third man has been rescued as Chile works to free 33 miners trapped for 69 days in a collapsed gold and copper mine.

Fifty-two-year-old Juan Illanes is a married former soldier who urged his fellow miners to be disciplined and organized while stuck a half-mile underground.

He hugged his wife and then climbed onto his cot, smiling broadly as he was wheeled away.

Next up on list of miners to be rescued is Carlos Mamani, the lone Bolivian among the miners. His family is waiting anxiously for the capsule to collect him.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

SAN JOSE MINE, Chile (AP) To hugs, cheers and tears, rescuers using a missile-like escape capsule began pulling 33 men one by one to fresh air and freedom at last early Wednesday, 69 days after they were trapped in a collapsed mine almost a half-mile underground.

Rescued first was Florencio Avalos, who wore a helmet and sunglasses to protect him from the glare of bright lights. He smiled broadly as he emerged and hugged his sobbing 7-year-old son, Bairon, and wife, then got a bearhug from Chilean President Sebastian Pinera shortly after midnight local time.

Awwwww., so true Belizean. Was too tired to watch last night, but listening to the radio when it came on this morning, I was moved by the applauses and shed a tear. So touching.

This is really, really great news. My mom's side of the family are all coal miners in West Virginia and everytime I hear about mining accidents it hits me pretty hard. As far as I know all my relatives are no longer working in the mines, though most are still working for the mining companies and have the scars from being in the mines. Only one of my four uncles have all the fingers they were born with. I've never worked in a mine, but I have been taken down in a couple when I was a teenager. I'm very, very happy this story is coming to a happy ending.

When the first miner was taken out last night it was very moving, but when his young son was crying and started bursting with joy and excitement to see his father, you could feel all the emotion and joy that was surrounding them. This is definately a happy ending.

So far they're all sticking together and holding on to the promise they made that nobody would grant individual interviews or say too much without the approval of the others. This way they promise to pool all the $$ and split it even. Hopefully, they are able to stick to those promises and not be influenced by outside forces and get greedy.

Some other catastrophe or new interest will bump their moment of fame down from primetime. Humans in this day n age are fickle and tend to rely on media to keep our focus on a particular storyline.
