Another Obama support LIES to everyone!

EDITORIAL: Dodd lied about AIG bonuses

    Published: Friday, March 20, 2009

Weíre not going to mince words. Chris Dodd is a lying weasel. It is hard enough to swallow that the senator had no idea that he got preferential treatment on his home mortgages that saved him thousands of dollars. Or that, simply out of friendship, a wealthy New York man, who was later convicted in a huge stock swindle, picked up much of the cost of a condo Dodd bought in Washington; or that the stock swindlerís business partner out of a love of Ireland did the same for Dodd when the senator bought a waterfront house in Ireland.

Now, Dodd flat-out has lied about his role in legislation that is allowing employees of American International Group to receive $400 million in bonuses despite receiving $173 billion in taxpayer money to keep the failed financial giant alive.

We praised Dodd on March 9 for authoring an amendment to the $787 billion stimulus bill that barred the top executives and highest-paid workers at companies that took government bailout money from receiving bonuses. Sharply down in opinion polls, Dodd was riding the wave of public anger at Wall Streetís greed.

What Dodd did not reveal at the time was that there was a provision in his amendment that exempted any bonuses, including AIGís, in contracts dated prior to Feb. 11. The exemption was cited by Obama administration officials as the reason they were powerless to stop AIGís payment of the bonuses.

CNN, the cable television news channel, Tuesday asked Dodd about the loophole. Dodd told CNN it was not in the bill when it left the Senate. "I canít point a finger at someone who offered a change at all," Dodd said. Asked if he later determined how the loophole was added, Dodd said, "I really donít know."

Wednesday, Dodd was forced to admit to CNN that he was responsible for the loophole after the Treasury Department said it had asked Dodd for the change. Dodd had the good grace to apologize for his Tuesday lie; but, he tried to shift some responsibility to his staff, claiming it, not he, had spoken with Treasury officials.

Dodd claims he was unaware of the AIG bonuses when he changed the language of his amendment to allow them. Dodd, however, is more than familiar with AIG. Its Financial Products unit, which helped drive AIG to the brink of bankruptcy, has headquarters in Wilton. As a member and now chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, which has jurisdiction over AIGís industry, Dodd has received more campaign money, $281,038, from AIG than any other member of Congress.

Doddís lie about the bonus loophole should haunt him next year when he seeks re-election. He has broken a bond with voters who expect honesty from their elected officials.

You another wan dat is throwing the stone and hiding your hand. Why you have to put Mr. Obama in dis stew? Why you have to tie his name up to every evil in America?
Why you have to call this thread: Another Obama support LIES to everyone!

Dodd is the remnant of the last administration's rampant thievery. He's just another frat boy who was a republican in a democrat's clothing. Wall Street was in bed with the last administration and now you putting it on Obama? Not fair--the last administration wooed all those in power and helped Wall Street clean out the banks and financial instutions...now you come with your bitterness and cuss out Obama at every bend in the river.
If McCain was pres, you would shut your eyes to all this. And the thievery would go on. No one would be exposing Dodd...he would have bought more and more houses.
Thanks to Obama, they are exposing the thieves one by one. Why can't you be grateful for this?

    Liad bout wat?

Dodd endorsed Obama, wat dat have fi do wid the price of rice in China?
Dodd was thieving fi years--he was hiding under the cloud of thievery that Wall St. and the last adm. created. He was safe there. So he endorsed Obama--should Obama give him a get out of jail card? No, Obama did the right thing and will nab Mr. Dodd. You sure that's not what is twisting your shorts now--the fact that Dodd will be turned into a Dodo?

Why should Obama have loyalty to him? Obama put the people first.
Bwai, go drink u coffee and have a doughnut. Rest you heart. We all in good hands now.
How many days leff before u retire now? You throwing a big party? Invite me no sah? I in need a some low country food. Miss it.

Now Obama wants to kill of charities.

President Obama's plan to expand health care coverage by raising taxes on the wealthy is drawing accusations that he wants to do it at the expense of charitable giving.

"I don't understand why the administration would try to create any disincentive that reduced any donations to charity," Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., said.

Yet critics say that is exactly what the president's proposed budget will do by limiting the charitable giving tax break for families earning more than $250,000 per year.

The $634 billion down payment on expanding health care coverage would come from a $318 billion increase over 10 years in taxes on the wealthy, defined as couples making more than $250,000 per year and individuals making more than $200,000.

The tax increase would occur in 2011 by reducing the benefit the wealthy get on tax deductions. For example, taxpayers in the current top tax bracket of 35 percent could see their tax deduction for every $1 given to charity drop from 35 cents to 28 cents.

The most recent IRS statistics from 2006 show that families earning more than $250,000, which represents less than 2 percent of all taxpayers, was responsible for about 28 percent of all giving, amounting to more than $81 billion dollars in charitable gifts.
