New York rapper Jamal `Shyne` Barrow, who is currently serving a 10-year-prison term, is the illegitimate son of new Belize Prime Minister, Dean Barrow. Barrow is the Central American nation’s first black prime minister and was elected to the post on Feb. 7th.

Shyne is the former Bad Boy and Def Jam recording artist who was jailed in 2000 for weapons possession and first-degree assault after the infamous December 1999 shooting at Club New York. Many will remember the incident on December 27, 1999, at a Manhattan nightclub where Shyne, Sean Combs with then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez and their entourage had been partying.

Around 3 a.m., Combs and Shyne allegedly began arguing with another group of patrons. Someone threw money at Combs, a gesture of disrespect, and guns started going off. Three bystanders were shot - patron's Robert Thompson and Natanya Reuben and club's bouncer, Julius Jones. Shyne, who police found with a pistol in his waistband, was arrested after bystanders identified him as one of the shooters.

Shyne has always claimed he acted in self-defense and only fired his gun after the other group, Matthew 'Scar' Allen and his crew began shooting. It is rumored that he will be released from prison sometime this year. Def Jam expects to sign the imprisoned rapper to a $3 million record contract this week, AP reports indicate.

Shyne was raised by his mother in Brooklyn after he was born out of wedlock to a Garifuna woman.
It is reported that Dean Barrow refused to acknowledge him and Shyne actually rapped about it in his 2004 release of `Godfather Buried Alive.`
