Yes, they seem to always try to outdo other places. Thing is that, unlike Belize City, the people in OW who get involved in carnival are people who have money (ministers' wives and what not). In the process of trying to win as best carnival band (more for pride and not for money that they don't need - and OW people have too much pride as is), they really bring out some very extravagant floats and costumes.

No wonder all of my contacts (read: friends) all wanna go to OW to capture pics of September Celebrations there. When it's all over they claim that they have delays (read: got drunk to rass and have hang over fi days) or are experiencing technical difficulties (read: I got drunk and noh know weh di rass the camera deh) :D

As soon as I get more pics, I will post them. Glad y'all enjoy :beerchug

:D:D I'm glad to see ANY pics of Belize. :thinking I just saved a bundle on travel expenses. :angel

Added some pics to the Belize City 2007 Carnival section that were taken by Tony Rath. Eventhough the watermarks say copyright 2006, they are of the 2007 Carnival Road March. Don't know why he did that. Anyhoo, enjoy.

Added pics to Punta Gorda 2007 Independence Parade. Enjoy :party

Ok, so this following post and accompanying set of pics have nothing to do with September Celebrations. They are of the Belize BandFest 2007 that was held in Belize City in February. I figured I'd share them, and since this has become sort of a parade thread, I decided to put them here.

Looks like I have to hit the districts for the celebrations next year.

Here's what I recommend. Go to OW for Sep 20th. They are truly the best for bringing in Independence. The entire downtown section is blocked off. Lots of people, but enough space to wander about. Stores and restaurants and clubs and bars open til the wee hours of the morning.

21st morning (if u get up early), head to Corozal for beach party and Corozal Carnival. They have theirs in the morning as not to conflict with OW's. Then after lunch, head back to OW for official ceremonies and carnival. Carnival in OW started out as carnival groups from Belize City joining the OW Independence parade so as to use their costumes at least twice. It has transformed into something all its own, with carnival groups forming from OW, CZL and several villages. So much so that it has started to rival Belize City's carnival each year. It wasn't that spectacular this year as these districts are still trying to recover from Hurricane Dean and having Belize City's Carnival the following day, meant no participation from Belize City.

There are lots, and I mean LOTS of people that go to OW for carnival (Sep 21), but OW is relatively safe. There were no reports of crime nor traffic accidents this year. Expect to return to Belize City late 21st night or early 22nd as the OW Carnival (which is without high schoolers as they have their own parade, which is also separate from the Children's Rally parade) is so long it generally doesn't finish until well into the night (between 7:30 and 8pm - as can be seen from the pics, they were taken at night). It usually starts around 3pm.
