There are 5 major international pageants. They are Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss International, and Miss Tourism Queen. There are several smaller international ones (such as Miss Latina International, Miss Mini Universe, etc) and regional ones (such as Reina de La Costa Maya, Miss Rainforest International, etc).

There is no longer just a Miss Belize, or Miss Jamaica, or Miss Russia, etc. Each national delegate (a female selected to represent her country) must have in her title the pageant that she will compete in. That is how we arrive at Miss Belize Universe, Miss Belize World, etc. Miss Belize Universe will represent Belize at the Miss Universe Pageant and cannot enter any other pageant as long as she is considered 'Miss Belize Universe'. If she loses at the pageant, then she can go and represent Belize in another pageant. If she wins, she cannot represent Belize in any other pageants that year as she will be Miss Universe. Same goes for other pageants.

Miss Universe 2007 was held in May (Mexico City, Mexico), Miss International 2007 in October (Tokyo, Japan), Miss Earth 2007 in November (Manila, Philippines), Miss Mini Universe 2007 also in November (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), and Miss World 2007 will be held on December 1st (Sanya, China). Dates and locations for 2008 have yet to be set.
