A woman with Belizean nationality is in jail in the state of Arizona – on suspicion of money laundering. 39 year old Karen Anderson was busted with over $300,000 in the trunk of her rental car, a 2008 Ford Mustang. She was stopped near the border between Arizona and California when police noted that one of her taillights were out. An Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer said he detected the smell of marijuana. When he searched the car, he found $319,000 neatly bagged off and stowed in a suitcase.
Anderson told police that she didn’t know where the money came from – and could only account for $2,500 that was in her purse. The case has been turned over to detectives with the La Paz County Narcotics Task Force. Anderson who is described in U.S. news reports as a Belizean national is held in county jail, awaiting trial.
