The Belize in Pictures Series officially comes out of hiatus with this set of photos. This past weekend (June 27 - 29) was celebrated in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye as Dia de San Pedro - a three day celebration in honour of San Pedro's namesake and Patron Saint. It's also in honor of the first families that came to Ambergris Caye during the Caste War in Mexico around 1847. The celebration takes place on the 29th Feast Day of St. Peter, which places it at June 27th each year.

This year, the celebration included the blessing of boats, mass, a procession, several local and international cultural presentations, performances by bands, a fair, and a fishing tournament. Despite the weather not co-operating much, a good time was had by all.

The following photos are of the different events. Some of the photos come courtesy taco girl, San Pedro Sun, and Ambergris Today.

Enjoy!

...looks like a mexican feast day...

Most Sanpedranos are descendants of Mexicans. Plus, some of the performers were Mexican, doing Mexican Cultural Dances. The Belize Dance Company and The San Pedro Dance Company also did performances.
