Jose isstationary, and the system is expected to meander well offshore ofthe coast of southeast New England for the next few days.Maximum sustained winds remain near 60 mph (95 km/h) with highergusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next couple ofdays, and Jose is forecast to become post-tropical tonight or onFriday.Jose is a large system. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outwardup to 205 miles (335 km) from the center. A sustained wind of36 mph (57 km/h) with a gust to 48 mph (78 km/h) was recentlyreported at the Nantucket Airport. An unofficial observing site inVineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard recently reported a sustainedwind of 39 mph (63 km/h) with a gust to 52 mph (83 km/h).The minimum central pressure recently reported by an Air Forcereconnaissance aircraft is 984 mb (29.06 inches).HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND----------------------WIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected to continue in thewarning area through tonight.SURF: Swells generated by Jose are affecting Bermuda and much ofthe U.S. east coast and will likely cause dangerous surf and ripcurrent conditions during the next few days.
